  • Overview

    The United Nations Foundation links the UN’s work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, global health, peace and security, women's empowerment, poverty eradication, energy access, and U.S.-UN relations.


    The United Nations Foundation’s Public Affairs department supports multiple issue area priorities spanning the Foundation’s campaigns and special projects. The Public Affairs team also coordinates externally with UN agency social media and digital communications teams and outside partners. The Digital team works to amplify those messages online and build communities of digital supporters.

    Working Relationships

    The Digital intern will report to the Senior Producer and Community Manager. 


    • Assist in drafting and editing content such as blogs, toolkits, emails and newsletters.  
    • Assist in research on relevant topics and social media trends.
    • Assist with monitoring and analyzing digital metrics; assist with producing metrics reports.
    • Assist with the creation of graphics and other visual elements for social media promotion.
    • Work with the Digital Producers to make updates to the UNF website and blog.
    • Participate in team strategy sessions and assist in brainstorming activities.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Selection Criteria

    • Candidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university with a demonstrated interest in the UN and international development.
    • Interest and/or experience in digital communications and CMS-based websites.
    • Interest and/or experience in research and writing.
    • Broad understanding of digital tools and social media, with examples of current and successful uses of blogging, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
    • Strong creativity and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work well with a small, fast-paced team and manage multiple tasks.
    • Strong consideration given to candidates with experience with HTML and Adobe Creative Suite, or another equivalent design software.

    Benefits & Compensation

    The United Nations Foundation offers unpaid semester-long full and part-time internships during the following:

    • Fall: September-December
    • Spring: January-April
    • Summer: June-August
