    The United Nations Foundation links the UN’s work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, global health, peace and security, women’s empowerment, poverty eradication, energy access, and U.S.-UN relations.

     

    Nothing But Nets is an innovative grassroots campaign that fights malaria, which claims the life of a child every two minutes. Our campaign goals are to raise funding to send lifesaving bed nets to families and to advocate for malaria prevention programs like the President’s Malaria Initiative and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The Nothing But Nets Videography and Design intern will assist the communication team in preparing for major moments in the malaria community this fall including Malaria Day in the Americas, #GivingTuesday, and end of year fundraising.     Working Relationships

    The Communications Intern reports to the senior member of the Nothing But Nets’ Communications team.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Work with the Nothing But Nets team to help build creative video products that tell the campaign’s story on social channels like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
    • Assist in drafting, editing, and creating projects using Adobe Creative Suite, especially Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop
    • Helps design and produce digital assets for NothingButNets.Net, social media platforms, and email newsletters and online forms as needed
    • Help the campaign’s Communications Associate to pull data and analyze the campaign’s digital performance.
    • Help the campaign update materials and collateral with new messaging.
    • Manage organization of Nothing But Nets’ photo and video assets.
    • Take quality notes, document work, and be able to translate team directives into a finalized product.
    • Support the campaign’s communications efforts to meet grassroots, advocacy, and fundraising strategies.
    • Assist with campaign events.
    • Provide administrative support as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Selection Criteria

    • Intern must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within eight months of graduation) with a demonstrated interest in the UN and international development.
    • 30-40 hours per week is required for the internship.
    • Candidate should be eager to build video portfolio in a professional environment, and must be prepared to show up on-time to events and normal work days as mutually decided upon with hiring team. 
    • Not required but recommended: applicant should have access to their own video editing software
    • Applicants should have an understanding of and experience with communications, journalism and/or public relations, social networking and blogging, and have their own presence on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, or Tumblr.
    • Background knowledge in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, International Studies, Global Health, or African Studies preferred.
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
    • Experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite, especially Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop
    • Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter.
    • Must collaborate with the team and be open to constructive criticism.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks.

    Other Information

    The United Nations Foundation offers unpaid semester-long full and part-time internships during the following:

    • Fall: September-December
    • Spring: January-April
    • Summer: June-August
