    The United Nations Foundation links the UN’s work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, global health, peace and security, women’s empowerment, poverty eradication, energy access, and U.S.-UN relations.

     

    The Public Affairs team supports a full range of foundation-wide communications, including working with television, radio, print and digital press, production of marketing and communications materials, event production, and more, to help connect people to the work of the UN Foundation.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Intern must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within eight months of graduation) with a demonstrated interest in the UN and international development.
    • Full-time (30-40 hours/week) or minimum 2.5 days per week during regular office hours
    • Assist in building an internal public affairs database across influencer, partnerships and UN communicator relations.
    • Support UNF communications outreach projects, partner convenings and special events through meeting preparation (e.g., taking minutes/notes), report tracking, writing, and event production.
    • Assist in planning, logistics, speaker management and all aspects of digital coverage for various critical moments on the UN calendar.
    • Assist in conducting research across a range of issue areas in support of Foundation communications.
    • Assist with drafting stories of impact, content scripts for video production, and other materials for blog posts and digital story telling across various audience groups and platforms.
    • Support the overall work of the Public Affairs team.

    Selection Criteria

    • Experience with event planning, communications, social networking and blogging, confidence using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Pinterest is welcomed.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent written and oral skills.
    • Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter.
    • Background in marketing/communications or public relations preferred.
    • Experience in Word, Excel, Outlook and Google docs essential. Salesforce, Mailchimp and Eventbrite desirable.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
    • Knowledge of international development will be an advantage.
    • Specific timing: ideally January 21 to April 30 (exact dates are flexible).

    The Intern should be willing to start no later than January 2019.
